teaching.mrbelshaw.co.uk …Doug Belshaw’s teaching-related blog: news, resources and ideas for busy teachers!
  • Weekly Roundup

Sunday afternoons are a good time to reflect on what one has learned, discovered, or found interesting in the past week. So here’s what’s struck me in the past seven days…

My find of the week has to be Flash Earth, which allows you to view both Google Earth and MSN Virtual Earth within your browser.

    Flash Earth

This has numerous applications and adds quick, easy access to what I have already described as a powerful teaching and learning tool.

Another useful Internet-related tool I’ve discovered this week is PBwiki, a free, private wiki solution which promises that setting your wiki is as easy as making a peanut butter sandwich! :D

    PBwiki

On the subject of wikis, EdTechTalk continued their series of great podcasts with a discussion including Danny Wool of the Wikimedia foundation (the force behind Wikipedia and other projects). It was an interesting insight into where the foundation sees in the future of various projects, especially regarding accountability for the accuracy of information therein. (just a note if anyone from EdTechTalk is reading this: the half-hour podcasts are lot more manageable than the ones which run to over an hour!) Smelly Knowledge, one of my favourite education-related blogs also deals with Wikipedia and the Search for Networked Truth :D

    You Decide!

    Mr Belshaw wants you!

This blog reflects my interests and ideas, but I’d like it to become increasingly reader-driven. To that end, you have the opportunity to vote on what you’d like to see appear here during the coming week. Click below to vote in the mrbelshaw.co.uk/teaching poll!

(I’ll be writing on all the subjects in the coming weeks, but would be interested to see what people see as a priority!) :s
