Yesterday, Google released the Google Page Creator. As with all things Google, it’s an easy-to-use yet powerful way of accomplishing a worthwhile task. In this case, creating a web page/site. Let’s have a closer look…
Google Page Creator is a web 2.0 application, meaning it is a web-based service that would have been run in the past through an installable program on your computer. Its interface is AJAX-based (Asynchronous Javascript And XML) which basically means that the whole page doesn’t have to refresh if you change one small thing. Wordpress users and GMail users may have noticed these types of things already…
The interface is simplicity itself - understated yet powerful:
There are a plethora of ways to make your website look (41 - I counted!) but of course you can tweak the colours easily so, in effect, these ‘looks’ are just a base from which to start:
In terms of layout, you’ve four options - no sidebar, sidebar on left, sidebar on right, or two sidebars:
So long as you don’t intend to host lots of large video files, you won’t need to worry about running out of space with Google Page Creator as you’re given 100MB to play with:

You can upload any kind of file directly to the Page Manager:

The Page Manager also allows you to publish, unpublish, delete and duplicate your pages:
Google Page Creator requires a Google Account. If you haven’t got one, sign up here! ![]()

Is there no limit to google’s fabulousness? …ignoring for a moment the rather dodgey Chinese business…
Thanks again Doug for alerting me to an interesting new development on the web.
No probs. Simon. Your site’s coming on - in fact, it’s looking great! Keep up the good work…

But to get Page Creator, you need a GMail account, and you can only get one of these if you live in one of the few countries where GMail beta is being tested - which don’t include the UK…
Lots of people have got GMail accounts now, and get 100 invitations which are updated on a regular basis. If you want one, just let me know!

Newsforge has a review of Google Page Creator. It says it’s OK, but nothing to write home about just yet. I suppose it depends what you’re after…
