…Doug Belshaw’s teaching-related blog: news, resources and ideas for busy teachers!

  • It’s easy to get caught up in 21st century pedagogy and technology but some things to do with teaching and education are almost timeless. Confucius, a Chinese philosopher whose dates are c.551-479 B.C. is a thinker who, despite living two-and-a-half millennia ago still has something relevant to say to educators today…

  • There’s no ‘right answers’ or ‘cure-alls’ when it comes to behaviour management, just heuristics – guides, ways of doing things which will, on most occasions result in some kind of improvement in a situation. Here’s some things  I do to try and improve student behaviour…

  • With the controversy surrounding school trips in recent years it’s no wonder that the number taking place has declined. The YHA hope to help change this situation with the launch of Learn4Real.co.uk which aims to help eliminate the hassle of arranging school residential visits. There’s information on over 80 YHA locations together with details of the YHA’s curriculum linked courses, activities and excursions. The website also includes health and safety advice, a downloadable brochure and all the latest special offers.

  • Well, I’m almost done. I thought I’d lost my whole database of posts at one point, but thankfully it was a typo and not the massive data loss I’d dreaded. It’ll take me a couple of days to sort things like the header image(s), the tag cloud at the bottom of the page, the Microblog, images in posts, smilies, and the category images next to each post, but bear with me. At least the Archives page and the search function are a whole lot better! :p

  • It’s odd. Some weeks it would seem the edublogging community is hard pushed to come up with a decent post between them, and then some weeks – like this week – everyone seems to be ‘in the zone’! :D
