20 Ideas: Introduction

Posted By Doug Belshaw On 11th September 2006 @ 18:33 In Ideas | Comments Disabled

WARNING! This website is no longer actively maintained. It is an archive of 2 years work by Doug Belshaw who now blogs at [1] dougbelshaw.com... [2] Ideas

Over at the [3] EffectiveICT Forum, Andrew Field started a thread in which he asked for help in putting together a session around the idea of ‘50 ideas in 50 minutes’ about the use of ICT in education, based on a similar idea he’d seen done by a colleague. The responses he got from this were fantastic, so I’m going to take that ball and run with it a bit. Ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce 20 Ideas! :D

Here, in no particular order, are the 20 things I intend to cover:

  1. [4] Using Powerpoint as an interactive teaching and learning tool
  2. Getting students to use their mobile phones as learning tools
  3. Using a word-processing application as a scaffold for essay-writing
  4. Creating massive custom-made posters for display in the classroom
  5. [5] Setting up a teaching and learning wiki
  6. Creating a teacher/departmental/faculty website
  7. [6] Timing portions of lessons
  8. [7] Using Google Earth to develop spatial/locational awareness
  9. Using ICT for non-written assessment
  10. Podcasting your lessons/revision materials
  11. [8] Getting your students blogging and using social networking tools
  12. [9] Using sound effects in your lessons
  13. Using Skype to bring virtual experts/other parts of the world into your classroom
  14. Using an interactive whiteboard interactively
  15. Geotagging photos and sharing field trips with the world
  16. Encouraging students to present their work effectively
  17. [10] Enabling students to contact you via email
  18. Improving essay-writing
  19. Using ICT-based games to make learning fun
  20. [11] Creating a virtual field trip or visit

I’d encourage you to join and submit your ideas to the [3] EffectiveICT Forum and get more teachers using educational technology! :p
