Ooh - my pet peeve! These contrivances just lead to discriminatory practice, which lead to further resentment. They can call it “positive” discrimination if they like, but as far as I’m concerned that implies that discrimination in favour of one group of people is bad while in favour of another group of people, it’s good. Sorry, but to me that’s a discriminatory assumption. I’ve seen both sides of the coin in my life and I reckon they both jeopardise equality.
