Google Custom Search in Sidebar
4 CommentsAs you may have noticed if you’re reading this on the site itself rather than the RSS feed, I’ve added a box which enables you to search the edublogosphere via a Google Custom Search. There’s about 170 sites being indexed at the moment and you are free to volunteer to add more or help refine the search! If you’d like the search box on your site, just let me know and I’ll send you the code… :D

Doug, I would like the code to add to my blog, is there a way of ammending the sites once you have the code?
Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve,
The code simply puts a search box onto your page. The sites used by the search can change all the time and this will be reflected in any search done through the search box on your site. :)
Copy and paste the code below to have the search box show up – you can change the value from ‘40′ to whatever you want to change the size of the search box. Mine’s set at ‘20′…
PS If anyone wants to show code on a Wordpress blog without the actual thing you are providing code for showing up, simply install the codeautoescape plugin and follow the straightforward instructions! :D

Hi Doug
I like the look of the Custom Search that you’ve built – is there a way of getting it to show (to anyone other than you!) the list of blogs that it’s built from? -
Hi Emma,
I’ve added a link to the actual ‘home page’ of the Edublogosphere Search Engine, from which you can sign up as a volunteer to expand and refine it. You should then be able to see the blogs which it currently uses for results… :)
