One way to get past just using Google is to use a service that also posts results from other search engines.
E.g. try this http://ouseful.open.ac.uk/searchTabs.php?s=c,y,g&amp;q=search first page

I use frame to doisplay results so users can see the results really are coming from a the different search engines (using web services would mask this...)

I was thinking of adding a random search engine function that would return results using a random search engine picked from a specified list identified in the URL...

But picking up on your comment, maybe I should have an option that delivers results starting at page 2?;-)
e.g. http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=talis%20cybrary&amp;start=10
