I’m certainly not saying that we should start instructing people to go straight to page 2 of search results, but educating them about the need for a toolkit of search options is certainly important. Your site is very useful for this, so thank you! :D

Hi Doug-
One way to get past just using Google is to use a service that also posts results from other search engines.
E.g. try this http://ouseful.open.ac.uk/searchTabs.php?s=c,y,g&q=search first page

I use frame to doisplay results so users can see the results really are coming from a the different search engines (using web services would mask this…)

I was thinking of adding a random search engine function that would return results using a random search engine picked from a specified list identified in the URL…

But picking up on your comment, maybe I should have an option that delivers results starting at page 2?;-)
e.g. http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=talis%20cybrary&start=10
