Using Splashr in the classroom (2)
6 CommentsFollowing on from my post yesterday about how to use Splashr in the classroom, I decided to video my use of it in the classroom today. I couldn’t show the students involved, unfortunately, as I haven’t yet got parental permission for photo and video use on the Internet. Also, my digital camera didn’t record all of the starter activity so there’s only part of it. The start was a bit rushed, but it got better… :p

Doug this is great – just great. I would love to see more of your ideas like this in action. As you mentioned before there might be a difficultly with parental permission, but as you have shown here there are ways to get around it by not showing the faces of the children etc.. I can tell that the class loved the idea and the concept of the lesson. Well done. Ollie

It has to be said, this is my favourite class, but then all of the classes I have in my new school are fantastic compared to my last one… :o
Thanks for the positive feedback, Ollie. I will certainly try to illustrate my ideas in this way in future. I just need a digital camera more suited to capturing video. Perhaps the Pentax A20 (as featured on CrunchGear's Best of 2006 ) that can capture straight to 640×480 DivX? ;)

Agree with Ollie, Doug, really good idea. I've started doing video clips of standout lessons to include with downloadable resources – the Montserrat one being the best so far: http://www.juicygeography.co.uk/downloads/Montserrat resources/paniccam.wmv
Next term I'm going to try and get more clips of ICT practice onto the digital geography blog. I'll probably use my webcam for this. -
[...] Here’s another example of a Splashr presentation illustrating a field trip to London. Doug Belshaw added an interesting video featuring Splashr in the classroom to his blog. I really like his idea of using very brief video [...]
