5 things you may not know about me…
45 CommentsKaryn Romeis tagged me as a result of this ‘5 things’ meme that’s going around the edublogosphere at the moment. The idea is to give a bit more of a glimpse into the life and personality of the person behind the blog. As I’ve already shared my music habits and reading habits, why not… :D
1. I’m a Christian, attending an evangelical church, but I often have doubts – fluctuating wildly between wholehearted commitment and almost denial. It’s probably a result of my Philosophy degree… :o
2. I was brought up in a middle-class household in what used to be the largest mining village in the world – Ashington in Northumberland, England. Due to pit closures there was/is a lot of unemployment and the consequent drug-taking, teenage pregnancies, etc. that go with it. As my Dad was the deputy head of the high school I attended and I saw the long hours he worked, the last thing I wanted to be growing up was a teacher!
(mine aren’t quite as bad as this!)
3. I get migraines with ‘aura’ which means that some days I can’t do anything but go and lie down in a darkened room. These are caused by either annatto (a food colouring found in coloured cheeses and Coca-Cola, etc.) or stress.
4. Rather ironically (given point 3) I’m a big lover of various types of cheeses and red wine. Chilean merlots and French soft cheeses being my favourites. I’m also rather partial to Martini Rosso & ginger.
(I use an iPod in lessons for sound effects, motivation and relaxation)
5. I listen to music for a lot of my waking hours, anything from classical music to pop, (some) rap to nu-jazz,. My Last.fm profile is testament to this. I find that most people work better to music and that different music can have a huge effect on both my and other people’s mood and productivity! What am I listening to now? A bit of Quantic, as it happens…

I share your passion for music, although I can usually give jazz a miss. My kids are amused by the fact that I know Kasabian and Blink 182 and Snowpatrol. Their friends are often pretty impressed, but my younger son once told one of his mates that "I think my mother knows all the songs that there are, actually – shes sings along to everything!" -
My mother used to have a song for everything when I was growing up. I used to mock her at the time, but now I think it's quite sweet… :)
