teaching.mrbelshaw.co.uk …Doug Belshaw’s teaching-related blog: news, resources and ideas for busy teachers!
  • Slight redesign as a result of feedback

Many thanks to those who commented on the recent post 8 things that irritate me with edublogs. As a result of the feedback, I’ve realised that the previous design, although looking decent for those visiting the page, wasn’t great for those using RSS readers. The full text of the most recent post will now therefore be displayed upon arriving at teaching.mrbelshaw.co.uk. Most recent entries of Microblog (within which is this posted) can be found underneath the most recent main post. :)

  1. Hi Doug,
There was a variety of criticism in that blog post that you mention – although I don't think your new design is an improvement.  It was much better (in my opinion) to visit your blog and see the latest few posts and then be able to follow them if you wished.  It also means your Microblog can get pushed right down the page. :(
I see you've made the decision because of RSS – but can the RSS not direct people directly to the post in question rather than your homepage.

  2. Andrew, the whole blog needs a redesign to be honest – something I'll hopefully get round to by the end of the holidays and after I move web hosts. At present the fact that the whole RSS feed displays in feed readers is my priority. Also, visitors to the front page can read the most recent post without having to click – always a bonus! :)

  3. Doug, I almost left a “woo hoo” comment on the last post when I realized it was full text, but then I saw this one next in line and thought I’d leave the comment here. I really can’t comment on the microblog or the web-based look of the blog, but I’m happy to have your full posts in my RSS reader. For some reason what you write about seems to catch my attention often and it’s nice that it’s no longer extra work to read along. In fact, it was worth it to click through and comment. ;)

  4. Glad that I’ve sorted some issues, Mark! I really didn’t realise that full feeds weren’t active in RSS readers – perhaps I should subscribe to my own blog… :D
