Teacher absenteeism
83 CommentsI’ve only just caught up with this story from last week about teacher absenteeism via BBC News. It reflects an Australian report of 20,000 teachers that found that sickness records of staff are ‘affected by their colleagues’. The trouble with it, at first glance, seems to be that it treats teachers as non-emotional robots. Of course teachers are more likely to be off with stress, etc. if they work in a tough school. That’s not down to their colleagues – although that may be a factor – it’s down to the whole environment. (I speak from experience here…)

teachers being off depedns on alot of factors- immune system of the teacher, type of school, area, how supportive other staff are and management. In our school since we have had a new head and certain others have left the level of absenteeism has dropped. Yes staff being off affects others as we end up doing cover, my bug bear is if you are off and leave cover work and none attempts to teach it!
to be honest we all need to support eache other whether at the top or bottom of the school ladder! -
