I’m delighted to have found a UK version of the extraordinarily popular and useful (but originally US-centric) Did You Know? 2.0 presentation. It’s on YouTube [2] here and I’ve posted a bit more about it over at [3] edte.ch… :p

Hmm. I don’t think the music does this presentation any favour - nothing is every going to be punchy with that swirly soundtrack ;-)

Mind you, to be honest, I have always had a hard time seeing the point of all those slides that tell us that there are so many more Chinese and Indian people, children, graduates and gifted-and-talented kids. I find myself thinking: So what? It strikes me as pointless fearmongering. A bit “Head for the hills the Indians/Chinese are coming!”

The balance of power may well be shifting to the east, but there are have always been shifts in the balance of power, and I suspect that there always will be. I doubt that it is healthy for any one power to be too long at the top of the heap. Perhaps the fact that the country of my birth has never been a superpower allows me to be less bothered by the prospect of another shift. Most of the people with whom I have contact in this space are members of a current (USA) or past (Great Britain) super power, and I can see the evidence of how this has influenced national culture and attitudes. It would be interesting to hear the views of the people I “know” in places like Canada (Jarche, Downes, Siemens) and Australia (Artichoke, Jason Hando, Jo McLeay).

Likewise, Karyn, likewise. But it does make colleagues not so aware of what we discuss in the edublogosphere sit up and think a bit, doesn’t it? I.e. what are we going to do differently? The world is changing, how are we changing with it? :)
